Helping Gympie youth into work is at the heart of United Synergies’ Get Set for Work with US program. The fee-free training by way of a ten-week course is available to 15-19 year old’s in the area, and has recently relocated to the new headspace Gympie centre located at Suite 1, 2-4 Horseshoe Bend in the old Davies Furniture Court building.
Over the past three years, many of Gympie’s younger residents have participated in the program which includes accredited training for a Cert II qualification, work experience and life skills, as well as one-on-one support to help individuals secure employment or further training opportunities in the area.
Previous participants have since gone on to find work in a variety of fields from hospitality to retail, construction and automotive.
United Synergies Integration Manager Sean Connelly said the program provided young people in Gympie the support needed to transition from school to employment,
“Choosing what to do next when leaving school is a challenging time of life for young people, the Get Set for Work With US program supports 15-19 year old’s to navigate the options available to them and develop the skills and confidence to chase their goals,”
“While the course includes accredited training for participants to gain a Cert II qualification, it’s all the additional skills that we work with them on to help them into the next chapter of their life that really makes a difference”
“Helping a young person with practical aspects like resume writing, interview skills and time management are essential to building their confidence when it comes to them applying for work and standing out as a candidate,”
“By co-locating the program at the new headspace Gympie centre, we will engage more young people and provide more holistic care and support for them across all areas of their life, be it their mental health and wellbeing, alcohol or drug issues, social connectedness or employment aspirations,” said Sean.
