Youth Support Programs (view PDF)
United Synergies coordinates a variety of programs to support young people facing education and employment challenges in their lives. This includes those who are at risk of leaving school and/or have left school and are looking for work; or who are experiencing family difficulties.
Currently we offer the following youth support programs:
Youth Connections – works with young people at risk of disengaging or who have already disengaged from education, family and community to develop skills and attributes that promote wellbeing and support positive life choices. The Connect2Mentoring program is a key component of Youth Connections.
Get Set for Work – helps young people aged 15-19 years who have disengaged or are at risk of disengaging from school with a transition pathway towards employment or further education
Youth Support Coordinator Program – works alongside schools and families to assist young people to make connections and steer them on a future path with direction, stability and a stronger sense of wellbeing
Learning for Life - an educational support program that provides direct financial assistance to children for the essentials of school life, delivered in partnership with The Smith Family.
Youth Connections
Youth Connections provides a safety net for young people aged 14 -18 years who have disengaged or are at risk of disengaging from education, offering flexible case managed support and services that recognise the role that family and community play in a young person’s wellbeing and development.
The program prioritises:
- Personal development - helping young people to develop personal skills and attributes that promote wellbeing and support positive life choices
- Connection and progression – encouraging engagement or re-enagement with education; and preparing for employment
- Relationships – building strong relationships to harness community resources and facilitate family and community support networks.
Youth Connections coordinators work one-on-one with young people as well as offer community outreach projects to connect with young people who are disconnected from family. Additionally, the Connect2Mentoring program matches young people with wise and insightful volunteer mentors from the local community.
Youth Connections is funded by the Australian Government’s Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.

Get Set for Work
Get Set for Work is a 12 week program design to help young people aged 15-19 years who have disengaged, or are at risk of disengaging from school, with a transition pathway towards employment or further education.
Offering a holistic approach, the program helps young people to reconnect with themselves, their family and community as well as focussing on improving general wellbeing and employability.
Participants benefit from practical work experience and hands-on skills development. Personal support and mentoring is offered throughout the program and beyond to help participants identify and overcome challenges so they can return to formal education or training or secure a job.
Get Set for Work is part of the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative
Youth Support Coordinator Program
United Synergies’ Youth Support Coordinator (YSC) Program coordinates support for young people attending high school (aged 12-18 years) who are at risk of leaving school and/or who are experiencing family difficulties.
YSCs work closely with schools and other community-based support agencies to achieve an integrated response that is tailored to suit the needs of each young person.
The strength of the program is its ability to provide a range of flexible responses to meet the varied needs of young people and their families, increasing their access to personal, social and emotional support services. Emphasis is placed on early intervention and prevention strategies and community education programs. The range of support services that could be provided include: assistance with communication/life skills; personal and family counselling; liaison with schools and other agencies; participating in group programs; referral to other services including accommodation; advocacy; and transport assistance.
The young people referred to this program are generally aged between the ages of 13 and 18 with referrals coming from schools, government and non-government agencies, and families and young people directly asking for support.
The YSC program is managed by the Department of Communities and funded by the Department of Education and Training.
