Younger Parents Support Program |
Young people who are pregnant or who are already parenting often require specialist support to foster positive relationships with their children, their families and the wider community.
The Younger Parents Program provides a weekly playgroup and additional ongoing support with education and employment. Any young person under 25 who is pregnant and/or a parent (male or female) and their children can benefit from the support this program provides.
The program works by:
-
assisting young people to develop connections with other young parents
-
developing positive parenting and relationship skills
-
reducing isolation experienced by young parents
-
developing and resourcing a playgroup
-
linking participants with community support and services
-
assisting young people to develop links to obtain education, employment and/or training
All parents participating in the program receive the additional individualised support of the coordinator by way of outreach and intensive assistance and can also participate in a variety of workshops to improve their parenting and life skills.
Further information on the Younger Parents Program can be found on the Younger Parents Program facts sheet (view PDF)
