Mentoring is a relationship which gives people the opportunity to share their skills and experiences, and to grow and develop in the process.
The one-on-one relationship is generally between a more experienced person and a less experienced young person and is based upon encouragement, constructive comments, openness, mutual trust, respect and a willingness to learn and share.
Our mentors come from all walks of life and are aged from 19-89 – they offer a diversity in age, open mindedness and a non-judgmental attitude and possess an interesting and varied array of life experiences and expertise to provides guidance, support and encouragement to young people.
Mentor relationships are developed across several of our programs, with young people who receive support via our supported accommodation, younger parents and various education and pre-employment programs all benefiting from the wisdom and insight our volunteer mentors provide.
If you would like more information about the mentoring program or are interested in becoming a volunteer mentor with United Synergies, please refer to our facts sheet (view PDF)
STOP PRESS!
We need more mentors for our 2013 program.
Do you have a spare hour or so a week and would be prepared to share your life experience to help young people work towards creating their own optimistic future?
United Synergies needs mentors to be a positive role-model and provide support, encouragement and guidance to young people in schools on the Sunshine Coast. Mentors complete a free, short training course and gain skills which can be invaluable in all areas of life and work.
The costs of mentoring are met by United Synergies. For more information phone Fiona on 5442 4277 or email
